Roots and Routes Art Showcase OpeningEvent

Birmingham City Schools is partnering with the Birmingham Museum of Art and Desert Island Supply Co. for the "Roots and Routes" student exhibition in the museum's Burrow Gallery!Open October 5-26, this exhibition showcases students' personal connections to home and memories, visual arts, and poetry. The student artists were asked to explore the twin themes of roots (where we come from) and routes (the paths we are making) through bilingual poetry and visual art.The artists were asked to reflect on personal and family history and identify the people, places, objects, traditions, foods, sounds, and memories that shape their identity, while the student writers read and discussed poetry in Spanish and English, and identified visual imagery, metaphors, and symbols.Stop by during your next visit to check out works by these talented local students! Opening reception is Oct. 7 at 5-7 p.m.
