Tue, Mar 16, 2027	Hulda Roper's 120th Birthday Born at Quincy, Illinois on March 16, 1907, Hulda V. Stahnke was the daughter of George and Louise (Mohr) Stahnke. The family moved to Topeka, Kansas, sometime between 1910 and 1920. George Stahnke died in 1921 and Hulda quit school to help out the family. The Stahnke family then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, and Hulda returned to school at the age of 18. She graduated from College View High School in 1928 and went on to attend Union College in Lincoln.In 1944 Hulda was working as a Lancaster County welfare caseworker when she heard a speech by the Lincoln Police Chief about the need for police women. Hulda was hired in 1944 and served as a police officer and later, detective. She married Reginald Roper in 1952. Hulda Roper retired from the Lincoln Police in 1973. She won numerous honors and awards and was inducted into the Nebraska Law Enforcement Hall of Fame. Roper Elementary School, located at 2323 S. Coddington in Lincoln is named for Hulda Roper. Hulda (Stahnke) Roper died at her home in Lincoln on February 28, 2001. She is buried in Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, next to her husband.	Event	—
